Artist Statement
I use the process of piecing and quilting to explore containment, disruption and repair. I construct compositions where structure and improvisation coexist. Line interrupts shape, centers press against their frame and forms are forced to adapt rather than conform. The traditional association of quilting with care and protection becomes a place to examine the ways their presence or absence define experiences. Color establishes tension and pulse while visible stitching records time and decision making. My work holds moments of interruption and disruption without erasure, marking space that is both supported and unsettled. Space where adaptation is visible and transformation is embraced.
Inspiration
I have had the good fortune of receiving a Vermont Studio Center Vermont Week Scholarship and learning from Nancy Crow at her Barn in Ohio.
